ALEX FROM TOKYO / “TIMEWARP”― SUGGESTION OF THE REAL DANCE MUSIC
－ It was indeed a very good start. What about Osaka and Kyoto?
ALEX 「I played also for the first time at "Union" in Osaka. They have a great soundsystem. It was a crazy party on a more techy/electronic vibe. The day after in Kyoto, it was the complete opposite kind of vibe. I played for Yoshihiro Okino's "Kyoto Jazz Meeting" and it felt very heart-warming and at home. I hadn't seen Yoshi for a while, but it didn't feel like it. We both played a lot of broken beats, vocals and house. Collage and Yoshi's party have been around for a long time, you have lots of support from the regulars, and I felt a strong unity」
－ Speaking about unity, it was very special in Morioka. Everybody, dance, dance (laugh)! From young people to old people continuously. It went on like this until after 8am.
ALEX 「I have had a long relation ship with Dj Bar Dai, and Dj Bar Dai rocks! Everybody coming to Bar Dai love to party. There is a surprise every ime, and it is normal to party until the morning. There are also certain songs and tracks that I always play at Dj Bar Dai. Dai and I have a special relationship! Praha in Niigata is the same. We have been working together for a long time, Praha is very hardcore! The Dj booth is like a spaceship. Every time I am really looking forward to play a long set there.」
－ Exactly. They are very pure to the music. How was the last gig of this first half of the tour in Matsumoto which you haven't been to for a while?
ALEX 「I think it must have been 5 years since I last went there . It was a great party for the last party of the first half of the tour. I felt closed to everyone, it got pretty crazy in the end! And also it was great to play together with friends I hadn't played with for a while」
－ Every place was different. How was our home ground Yellow? It was the last party at Yellow.
ALEX 「Yes it was. I am very sad about Yellow's closing. I got very inspired by Yellow, I have so many memories. It makes feel like I am losing a friend」
－ It is a very important thing for you Alex. Yellow has always supported you, you have a special relationship with them. Was it then an emotional night?
ALEX 「I played from open to the end, and it was definitely very intense and special. To be honest with you, I didn't feel sad, I was really enjoying myself. After Yellow announced that they were closing I realised that it was going to be the last party, but I didn't really think about it and it didn't bother me during the party. On the contrary, I was really excited about it thinking about all the music I wanted to play and about the night」
－ This is an interesting episode because before the party you were saying that you were under the shock.
ALEX 「One of the reason is because of everybody on the dance floor. Early from the opening lots of people came down and started to dance, and more and more people came. Because of everybody's reaction, from the 3rd record I played, I went for it big time (laugh)! I had just came back from Europe and Miami, I had lots of new music and lots of favorite records that I wanted to play. Everybody responded straight away. That is why we all got together. I really think that a strong connection happened that night」
－ A miracle happens every time (laugh)
ALEX 「I am also challenging myself. Timewarp is special for me. I am playing at Timewarp like I play usually in the world. I can also experiment. It has become a party where people react directly」
